Authorship and AI
At The BALEAP Journal of Research and Practice (BRJP) we expect authors to produce work with rigour, honesty and integrity. It is only in this manner that we will drive the field of EAP forward. Work submitted to the journal should be original and not previously published. See Author Guidelines.
The journal adheres to the COPE position on authorship and AI tools in that AI cannot be listed as an author of a work submitted to the journal.
Should AI tools be utilised in any aspect of the production of a work (including images, data analysis etc.), the authors are required to openly declare their use of AI and disclose such within the body of the article. Disclosure should include which tools were used, what they were used for and for what reason. It is recommended that this be within a methods section, but we appreciate that not all submissions will have such a section. It is the authors discretion as to where they disclose their AI use, but it must be explicit to the reader.
Authors are liable for any breach of ethics with regard to the use of AI. Any authors found to breach these rules will have their work removed from the journal.
Peer Review Policy
At the BRJP we are committed to furthering the field of EAP through rigourous research, thought, scholarship and conversation. We believe that an open peer review process is fundamental in achieving this. Submissions to the journal are assigned two reviewers. It is the journal’s policy for the identities of both the authors and the reviewers to be known. This enables dialogue on the review of the paper, in both directions. We are also committed to ensuring that authors are treated with respect and dignity and that harsh, patronising, and contradictory reviews are avoided. Should authors have any complaints or concerns about the review process they should contact the Editor-in-Chief.
Open Access policy (commitment)
The BALEAP Journal of Research and Practice (BRJP) is wholeheartedly committed to free global access to its content. For many within EAP access to knowledge and conversation is restricted and it is for this reason this journal will remain open access to all. Therefore, there is no cost to authors or readers of this publication.
All articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC-BY) (see below for further details).
All articles published within the BRJP are assigned a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) which creates a permanent link to the work. Read further information about DOIs.

Corrections and Retractions Policy
While the journal makes every effort to publish work that adheres to our standards of rigour, should authors or readers identify any cause for corrections to work published in the BRJP please contact the Editor-in-Chief with your concerns and evidence for corrections.
The editors will make corrections and notice of such will be provided in the next journal issue.
The BRJP follows other University of Warwick Press journals in its retraction policy (notably the Exchanges: The Interdisciplinary Research Journal). Whereby “an article retraction will only be considered where evidence of unethical publishing practices, as defined by COPE’s retraction guidelines, are brought to the Editorial Board’s attention. The Board will conduct a review, involving all relevant parties, and may add expression of concern notice while an article is under investigation. Should it be deemed necessary, the article will be replaced with a version watermarked as Retracted, although the original text will remain accessible. A retraction notice will also be added explaining why it was retracted.
In extremely limited cases it may be necessary to remove an article text entirely: e.g. when it is clearly defamatory, violates personal privacy, is the subject of a court order or might pose a serious health risk to the public. In these circumstances while the metadata will be retained, the text will be replaced with a retraction notice. An archival non-public copy of the article will be retained by the journal”.
